Augmented reality devices and apps are generally associated with interactivity and provide the users with lots of fun. However, it is hard to find AR apps which are helpful for enterprises. FieldBit, a company based in Israel has developed an enterprise-oriented application which will make AR headsets a valuable investment for companies. The app assists field workers like sales personnel, repair people, etc. to gather data and instructions and to send information about their performance, expectations and more, to the home office. This will help companies get first hand information from the workers, which might have been reported erroneously in the past.
App Developed for Epson Moverio
The enterprise AR app has been developed for Epson Moverio smart glasses. Moverio was chosen for the workers of Mekorot, an Israeli water provider. Evyatar Meron, the CEO of FieldBit said that instead of Google Glass or other AR devices from Lumus or Vuzix, this smart glass was chosen by the staff because of its functionalities, its usability and comfort.
According to Meron, the field workers of Mekorot will use the FieldBit app along with Moverio, to carry out high-risk and complicated tasks like maintaining and repairing high-tension electrical circuits at the water processing facilities of Mekorot that are located in Israel.
With the use of Moverio glasses and the FieldBit app, the workers will be able to get assistance and instructions from a supervisor who will guide them with steps they need to take. The workers will be able to stay in contact with the home office easily as the glasses have Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity. Weighing only 88 g, the glasses don’t pose a problem to workers when they wear them.
Used for Different Businesses
Managers are able to get more insight on how their business is working and how they can reduce their expenditure or take other necessary steps to facilitate their business, with this system. This is possible as they get complete information from the workers who upload them onto the glass. Information includes what was done and how it was done.
This app along with the smart device can help companies use unstructured data in a better way. Not only enterprises, but also other businesses can use this system. System administrators, doctors and salespeople could use this system to get detailed and recorded information of the steps they carried out and how effective they were. They would be able to improve their technique by analyzing the information at a later time.
It can be expected that in the future this app along with smart glasses like Moverio, will be able to make field work more economical and easier.
