Google Works with Xiaomi to Bring ARCore to China

ARCore, the mobile augmented reality platform of Google had launched in February and at I/O 2018, it has gone for version 1.2 and new features have been added. Now, the company is collaborating with Xiaomi so that ARCore is available to the users in China. As we all know the services of Google are blocked in China and this step will help Google capture a big market. So, how can users in China use this platform? Let’s have a look:

ARCore in China
For ARCore to work, you must have Android 7.0 and above. The mobile augmented reality platform also needs to connect to the Google Play Store for regular updates and for downloading apps from third-party developers. However, the latter is not possible in China where Google Play Store is not available.

To tap the Chinese market, Google has joined hands with various local app stores through which the AR platform will be distributed. The company has collaborated with Xiaomi App Store to bring ARCore to China. This partnership is however not new. Both the companies had earlier partnered for the Android TV Mi Box.

Mi Mix 2S is the first device which will feature ARCore. The AR platform needs significant technical partnership with manufacturers in order to make it functional. The Mi Mix 2S is the right choice of phone which will provide a wonderful augmented reality experience to users.

Following the Footsteps of Wear OS
Google is following the footsteps of Wear OS and bringing in ARCore to China with the help of local app stores. Wear OS, the Android operating designed by Google, for wearables and smartwatches is the most noteworthy presence of Google in China. Local services handle the different features available for the smartwatches and the wearable apps are available for download from Mobvoi or Huawei app stores. However, Wear OS requires lesser technical collaboration when compared to ARCore.

Recently, Google opened an AI Center in Beijing. The company is pushing machine learning networks like TensorFlow to developers in China. Google has recently invested in a eSports startup as ARCore can also be used for gaming.

There are reports that more ARCore partners will also be there.
