Virtual reality can take gaming to a completely new immersive level. However instead of using the conventional joysticks to play the game, it would be better if other means are developed. With the Realm System, now you will not run the risk of turning into a couch potato while playing games in virtual reality. Imagine getting real health benefits while playing your favorite game! Yes, that will now be possible with Realm System as it uses resistance accessory which can work with the Oculus Rift and the Kinect camera without any problem.
What’s the System all About?
The company claims that it is the world’s first gaming system that calculates how much energy is spent while using resistance. An immersive physical experience is created with the system and health benefits are also delivered at the same time. There are sensors in the hand-held controllers of the Realm which can track movements of your hand and body. The sensors measure positions, orientations and accelerations accurately. The system provides precise biometric information like power and force, by combining the system with a unique algorithm that makes use of resistance.
The way in which games are played is changed significantly when a system can measure the player’s power. When paired with virtual reality headsets, an additional sense of realism is obtained in the game.
How does the Realm Work?
The Realm is attached to the user’s hands and waist and it works with the Kinect camera which can track your movements. It also works in combination with the Oculus Rift, so that you can experience matching actions in virtual reality.
The main aspect of the system is that you have to actually exert your energy when you are brandishing a sword or swinging an axe to fight virtual enemies. You will also be able to feel the strain of a resistant steering wheel when you are driving a VR racing car. Up to four players can play games at the same time using the Realm System. If you don’t want to play a VR game, you can just pair up the device with the Kinect camera and leave the Oculus Rift aside.
There are six games to choose from- Tennis, Boxing, Zombie Sushi, Realm Fitness, Squat Box and Wood Chop.
If you want to get your hands on the Realm system, you can back the project and get early bird offers at around $200. The total funding goal of the project is $160,000 AUD. At the time of writing, $15,761 AUD has already been raised. The campaign ends on 21st March, 2015. Shipping will start from September 2015.
So, if you want to get the Realm System, you can back the project in Kickstarter.
