Google Glass might no longer be in a public beta mode, but the consumers’ interest regarding it hasn’t waned completely. We are still eager to know about any latest developments related to it. The Wall Street Journal has reported that Google is “quietly distributing” the latest version of its Glass to workplaces. The company hopes that with this version, it will find a better welcome than it would have in the consumer market. The new version of the augmented reality glasses are now termed as “Enterprise Edition” and users will get a few improvements on the hardware side.
An Improved Version of Google Glass
The “Enterprise Edition” is reportedly an improved version over the earlier one meant for consumers. A few upgrades have been made in this version which doesn’t have a wire-like frame. The first and the most notable change is that the glasses now come with a hinge-and-button system. This means that it can be fixed with different glasses. Users can also fold the devices just like normal glasses. Another change is a new Intel processor which comes with a support for 5GHz 802.11ac Wi-Fi. An improved wireless connectivity, a larger, thinner display prism and vertical and horizontal prism adjustment are some other changes which have been made in the “Enterprise Edition.”
It is also said to be waterproof and comes with greater durability. This is required as the new version is aimed for use by businesses in warehouses, factories or other work areas where it could easily get damaged. The company is also supposedly developing a battery pack for the “Enterprise Edition” which will give more power with magnetic connection. It is said to be distributed via the “Glass for Work” program.
Earlier 9to5Google had revealed some upgraded features of this new version of Google Glass, which matches with the report provided by WSJ.
The First Glass related News since the Reboot
The Google Glass project was reset after Tony Fadell, the CEO of Nest took charge of the project. It changed from a public beta version to a closed development one. The “Enterprise Edition” is the first news that we have got since the reboot.
The new version of Glass is supposedly in a testing phase. The aim of the company is to bring it to businesses by the end of the year.
