Managing your money will now become easier with augmented reality technology. Westpac New Zealand has launched its first mobile app using which users can manage their bank account easily. The bank had taken a crowdsourcing initiative to the UK with the Westpac Global App Challenge – UK, so that they could deliver the best digital banking experience to the users. In this initiative, the participants were asked to name a banking service or process which they found to be complicated and were then asked to provide a solution using their creativity.

Westpac AR Banking
The Westpac AR Banking app gives a new dimension to money management by combining a simple interface with 3D technology. The app is easy to use. The customer has to set up the app and just tap it to open. By opening the app and holding their debit or credit card under their smartphone’s camera, the users can access different features. These features use 3D and bring the information to life.
Simon Pomeroy, the Chief Digital Officer at the Westpac New Zealand told that with the use of this app, banking will be easier and faster for their customers. He added that the app is an example how they are using customer data in a visual and personalized way, thereby letting customers understand their finances better and get more out of these.
Advantages of using the AR App
- Customers will be able to recognize their spending patterns after a while with the use of this app. This is possible as they will be able to see how much they have spent on their credit card in the last 5 weeks.
- Customers will be able to see the last 5 purchases that are done using their credit card account.
- They will be able to see how much balance they have on their Hotpoints loyalty card and the amount that they still have to pay.
Westpac is trying to expand the ability of augmented reality for easing the payment process and also working on a unique offer for home buyers.
Right now the AR app is available only on iPhones and can be downloaded from the Apple Store. An Android version of the app might be available in the future.
