Alien: Isolation is a game based on the 1979 movie Alien. You will be able to understand the true meaning of fear through this game which is set in a terrifying environment. 15 years after the incident aboard Nostromo, in the original Alien film, Amanda Ripley is now on a mission to unravel the truth behind her mother’s disappearance from the space station. Things don’t work out properly and she is left all alone to survive an alien and a desperate population. The game has been developed by The Creative Assembly for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and for your desktop. But a few developers have made it possible to play the game in virtual reality.
Using Oculus Rift
You can try out the PC version of the game and use Oculus Rift to enjoy the game in an immersive virtual reality environment. The use of Oculus Rift for playing this game is not officially supported by The Creative Assembly and Sega. But a new easy way had been discovered by the players which will provide Oculus Rift support for the game.
For a special E3 demo of the Alien: Isolation, The Creative Assembly had added virtual reality support for the game. However, a few enthusiasts and developers posted the solution which the players could use to make it work commercially.
By editing a few XML files and text and configuring some settings in the Oculus Rift headset, the solution can be obtained. You can check out the steps in Reddit.
Playing the Game
Although unofficial, the experience of playing this game with Oculus Rift is awesome. When you are inside the world, you will be able to feel the game even more. The horror level of the game increases manifold when you feel that you are being stalked by the alien.
The pace of the game is one of the best things of playing in virtual reality. The illusion of being trapped is complete. With the headphones blocking out any external noise and the headset covering your entire view, you will have a completely immersive experience. You won’t have any control over your fears. Looking sideways for escaping the fear, will only take you further in the station. When you suddenly find the alien right on your face, you will be scared out of your wits.
It might turn out to be one of the best horror games in virtual reality, if full Oculus support is there. However, there are some issues which need to be fixed to make this game absolutely flawless. You can explore the surroundings you are playing in even better and you can have the fright of your life.
