Niantic Inc. is the company behind the development of the augmented reality game Pokémon Go. The game is currently in the beta phase and will be available for the users later in 2016. The free beta version was launched in January this year to give people an idea about what the game would be like after it is finally released for the consumers.
According to different sources, the app will be available next month itself, right on the 20th anniversary of “Pokémon Red and Green.” However, it seems that the time span is really short between the announcement and the actual release of the game. Moreover, no details have yet been heard about this game. Only time will tell when Pokémon Go will be available for consumers.
A Bit About The Game
The augmented reality game will be available for both iOS and Android devices. It will also include an app which the users can download and hunt Pokémon using their mobile devices. There will also be a digital storage locker which is in the shape of Pokémon balls and will be a part of the game. If you want, you can play the game without this locker.
In the earlier Pokémon video game series, real world locations like Paris, New York, Kanto and Hokkaido areas of Japan were used. In this game, users can use information about location and can battle, catch and trade with other players.
Pokémon Go & Pokémon Z
For the development of Pokémon Go, the Pokémon Company, Nintendo and Google have invested $30 million on Niantic Inc.
As per Google executive Don Harrison, “Niantic has shown the great potential of mixing geo-location technology, dynamic storytelling and innovative game design, and we’re excited to continue supporting the team on their journey.”
John Hanke from Niantic told Venture Beat that the MMO environment has provided inspiration for the game. He said “I think we can be bigger than World of Warcraft. There are more mobile devices than gaming-configured PCs out there.”
We can expect to hear the announcement for Pokémon Z in the first half of 2016, likely in May. Nintendo generally releases a new Pokémon game, nearly five months or more, after it is announced.
This can be seen from the release of Pokémon X and Y. On 8th January, 2013, it was first revealed to the consumers. It was made available to the consumers nine months later on 12th October. Same happened for Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire which was announced on 17th May, 2014 and was released five months later on 14th November, 2014.
Right now, let us wait for Pokémon Go, the immersive augmented reality game to find how it can engage the consumers.
