Engaging Kids in a Digital World
Senior vice president of strategy and business development at Disney Consumer Products, Kareem Daniel said, with Playmation kids growing up in the digital world can be engaged. The main idea behind this new platform of toys was “What if toys could play back?”
Daniel said “We use digital technology to make active physical play more exciting for kids. Parents believe technology is becoming a natural part of kids’ lives, but at the same time most parents are nostalgic about how active they were when they played growing up. Kids love to play make-believe and become super heroes, and Playmation offers lots of different ways to play.”
With input from Walt Disney Imagineering and Disney Interactive Studios, the new Playmotion line has been designed.
Super Hero Fantasy Comes to Life
According to the director of user experience and product management at Disney Consumer Products, Afsoun Yazdian, with Playmotion the super hero fantasy is brought to life while playing. This is possible with connected toys and wearables that use sound, light and haptic feedback to ignite a child’s imagination.
Playmation Avengers is the first one in a series of new franchise-based systems which has been created in partnership with Hasbro. Other systems like Playmation Star Wars and Frozen will release in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
The toys use infrared, gesture recognition and radio frequency technology which will let kids fight super villains like Ultron and Loki from the Avengers.
The Avengers Starter Pack consists of the Captain America and Iron Skull smart figures, Iron Man Repulsor Gear Glove and two power activators which will be available for $120. Extra wearables like Hulk Gamma Gear Hands ($40) will also be there, along with 16 smart figures.
It can be expected that Playmation Marvel’s Avengers will be a success among the kids.
