Oculus Rift has become one of the most popular VR headsets even though it was not released commercially. However, now Oculus VR has revealed its final and consumer version at last and is all set to launch the headset early next year. Along with this big reveal, another surprising announcement was also made by Oculus. The company said that it plans to team up with Microsoft so that the Xbox One game console can be used with Oculus Rift. The consumer version of the headset will also include new additions which will make the user experience even stronger.

What are the New Developments?
The consumer version of the headset will have a camera which will track your body as you move. It can track if you are standing, sitting down or moving across a room. These movements are replicated in a game and you will get the feeling that you are in the game itself.
Another development which was shown was the use of a pair of hand controllers which the company has named Oculus Touch. These controllers look like small joysticks which have rings across the base. With these controllers more realistic hand motions will be brought to the virtual reality world, which in turn will allow people to interact with these virtual surroundings.
Brendan Iribe, CEO of Oculus VR said “VR allows us to experience anything anywhere, it is that powerful.” He said that with the hand controllers, developers will be able to create unique things and its partnership with Microsoft will make Oculus headsets different than other companies. He added “We’re on a single mission: VR.”
Grabbing the Attention of Consumers
With this final version of Oculus Rift, the company will be able to grab the attention of the consumers, who could only see demo videos or prototypes of the Rift headset. However, the pricing has not yet been declared by the company. Some executives have hinted that its price might be around $1500 when used with a PC costing $1000 or less.
The entire collection of Xbox One games, including the forthcoming sci-fi shooter Halo 5: Guardians, will be available for the Oculus Rift through streaming technology that is built in Windows 10. The partnership will give the consumers the opportunity to play these games.
However, the Rift cannot be directly plugged into an Xbox video game console. It will only work with Windows at launch and play on a virtual screen.
Oculus is now focusing on gaming as well as creating computer-generated films with its new division Oculus Story Studio. It will be worth seeing how the consumer version will fare when it releases in the market next year.
